Pink S-Curve
2008
Acrylic on linen
78.75 x 71.75"
These most recent paintings combine the color fade of earlier paintings
with a scale shift of the modular mark. Again, the color shifts happen
slowly and deliberately. (This working drawing reveals the subtle shifts
necessary to create this color illusion.) One handmade gesture at a time,
the tripods compress from left to right as I paint them on subtly increasingcurves. I begin to model three-dimensional space by navigating my body and gestures across a large canvas. I have only a basic direction upon starting; many decisions about the shape and direction of the curves happen during the act of painting.
